Spent a happy afternoon rehearsing Margana II by Robert Sherlaw-Johnson with pianist Libby Burgess. Preparation for our concert on Friday at the University of Oxford Faculty of Music – 80th anniversary concert in memory of Sherlaw-Johnson.

Birmingham Town Hall – Catch a Fire Tour. No dinner so I was in a bad mood. Good mood after drinking a lot on the coach on the way back. Even better mood after a raucous houseparty till 5am!

Southampton gig (part of Catch a Fire Tour) with Jazz Jamaica All Stars, Urban Soul Orchestra and special Guest Brinsley Forde.

First rehearsal with trumpet soloist Simon Desbrulais. Played trumpet quintets by Rob Keeley, Steve Hicks and Rolf Wallin (arrangement by Desbruslais of Wallin’s Elegi) which we will premier at the Holywell Music rooms on 8 October. Enjoying working with trumpet and getting used to being slightly deafened by Simon’s dulcet tones.

Not too great at updating latest news. I am incorrigibly lazy.

Ligeti Quartet tour in China was amazing. Played at some of the biggest venues in which we’ve ever played and to large, appreciative audiences. We are now in love with our tour manager and interpreter, Leon. Concert for HellHOT! Festival in Hong Kong was fun, if crazily difficult: both Ligeti’s quartets played in succession, Nirmali Fenn‘s Winged Links, John Cage Quartet in 4 Parts and Gubaidulina’s 4th quartet with video by Matthew Greasley. We also played with awesome DJ Choi Sai Ho and worked on a piece for ‘hanging ice’ and string quartet with sound artist, mamoru at art gallery/new music venue/warehouse, Southsite.
Now I am attempting recovery after a busy summer. Sleeping a lot. Partying a lot. Practising a little bit. Wouldn’t want to overdo it!

Gig with Urban Soul Orchestra at Twickenham stadium this evening.

The Ligeti Quartet are now proud owners of  ‘Ligeti Quartet: China Tour 2012′ t-shirts. We are not geeks.
On the way to Heathrow now for a hot, wet and very exciting (perhaps too exciting if I still have an earache and a bad tummy) tour of Soutt East China and Hong Kong.

In Biarritz with the Urban Soul Orchestra. Sun, sea and lots of booze.

Ligeti Quartet playing new works at George Tavern this evening.

Looking forward to spending 4 days in Aldeburgh 20-23 June with the Britten-Pears Ensemble performing 7 new works plus Schoenberg’s 3 Pieces for Chamber Orchestra’ and Lutoslawski’s ‘Chain I’.

Enjoyed performing excerpts from Toby Young’s new chamber opera at LSO Soundhub – LSO St Luke’s.

Posted my first post yesterday and messed up the whole website! A huge white box appeared on homepage. Sorted now. Gorgeous weather today. Going to start work on Maxwell Davis trumpet quintet and then have a gig at Kensington Palace with Urban Soul Orchestra!

New website has just gone live! How exciting. I have been introduced to the world of blogging/tweeting/generally staying socialmedia active by Chanuki Seresinhe. Will try remember to post sporadically. Bye for now!
